About
Movimentu Kalma Iha Bee (Calm Movving Water) is a community-led aquatic education and drowning prevention initiative delivered on Atauro Island, Timor-Leste. The project has been designed to build lifesaving knowledge, water confidence, and emergency response skills within local communities, creating safer environments around water for children, families, and future generations.
Over four weeks, local Timorese staff and international volunteers will deliver practical aquatic education, basic rescue awareness, water safety knowledge, and drowning prevention strategies to schools and community members across Atauro Island.
This information page has been created to support continued learning for the people of Atauro Island, allowing participants, families, and communities to revisit important water safety lessons and remember the gift of aquatic education long after the project has concluded.
Beyond education, this project focuses on community capacity building by training and empowering local staff to lead future drowning prevention initiatives, strengthening local leadership and long-term sustainability.
